Rematch Yetming and Bharath

THE EDITOR: This is is an open letter to Mr Ganace Ramdial, chairman of the UNC Election Management Committee. The outcome of the UNC’s internal elections reveals that Gerald Yetming was victorious.

There was a call for a recount, which eventually overturned the results in favour of Vasant Bharath. As far as I could see the figures are all wrong, or the recount is highly suspect. Look at the figures:

Original

Result Margin Recount New Result New Margin

Yetming 5227 78 (-)99 5128 -

Bharath 5149 - (+)266 5415 167

Total Ballots 10,376 10,543

New extra ballots 167.

What confuses me here is, where did the 167 extra ballots come from in the recount, and furthermore, where were they during the original tally.

The plot thickens as to why it took five days for a recount of only two names.

If the UNC is boasting of a democratically organised election process, then the perfect solution is to rematch both candidates.
