13 hurt in 7-vehicle smash-up

THIRTEEN people were forced to seek medical attention at the Arima Medical Facility as a result of a seven-vehicle smash-up yesterday morning.

According to reports, a truck was proceeding east across the Mausica Road and Churchill Roosevelt Highway intersection in Arima at 5.15 am, when it collided with a car travelling south across the same intersection. The driver of the truck lost control, jumped the median and came into contact with a maxi-taxi full of passengers which had stopped at a traffic light on the southern side.

The maxi-taxi then hit another maxi-taxi waiting in line behind it.

The second maxi-taxi was pushed onto a car behind it, which then hit two other vehicles including a third maxi-taxi that was also waiting in line. When the dust cleared, 13 persons lay injured. Eleven were treated and released, while the driver and a passenger in one of the cars were warded for observation.
