Blue Basin man murdered

A contractor of Blue Basin, Diego Martin, became murder victim number 304 on Sunday.

Dead is Martin Alert, 50, of Andrew Terrace.

According to reports, Alert and his wife Eileen Pascal Alert had an argument at about 9.30 am, during which threats were issued. The frightened woman and her son fled the house.

She returned after a short while and saw another relative and neighbour taking her husband to a car. She was told that he had been injured and they were taking him to the hospital.

The self-employed contractor died at about 10.30 am, shortly after arriving at hospital. As a result of a report from the hospital, a relative was held while police moved to determine the cause of death.

Yesterday, after an autopsy at the Forensic Science Centre which determined that death was due to shock and hemorrhaging consistent with a bullet wound to the chest, another relative of Alert was held for questioning.

Investigations revealed that Alert was a heavy drinker who had often pulled cutlasses and had threatened to kill his family and burn down the house.

Reports revealed that seven of his children had already left home because of the threats. Pascal Alert has 11 children, nine of which are Alert’s. The two youngest children, 12, and 16, still reside at home.

West End police confirmed several reports of threats were made at the station.

Two relatives are currently assisting police with the investigation.

Visiting the scene were Snr Supt Roach, WP Insp Smith, Sgts Seepersad and Perera, and WPC Parris.

Sgt Perera is investigating.
