Eight Trinis held in Tobago Abm scam
Tobago police have put a dent in a bank machine (ABM) scam, in which several persons have fallen prey over the past month, when they arrested eight persons in a house at Mt St George, East Tobago, on Sunday morning. Eight Trinidadians, six men and two women, are currently assisting Scarborough CID officers with the investigation after they were held after weeks of being monitored. Police said the group, which operated mainly in the Scarborough and Crown Point areas, and mostly on weekends, carried out a well organised operation where they placed strips of film into the slots where the cards were inserted and would kindly offer "assistance" when the cards became stuck or would monitor their victims from nearby posts and retrieve the cards after they (users) had left. The police were able to crack down on the group based on descriptions received by some of the victims. They will be placed on ID parades during this week. However, officers believe that they may not have been operating alone and have advised the public not to divulge their pin numbers to other members of the public under any circumstances, and to report the matters to their banks as soon as possible. Persons with additional information relating to the matter are also advised to contact the nearest police station. Two of the eight suspects have also been charged with possession of marijuana and will appear in court later this week. Officers of the Scarborough CID are continuing investigations.
