Five students in court on bomb scare charges
FIVE secondary school pupils from a school in La Romaine will appear this morning before a San Fernando Magistrates’ Court to answer charges of calling in a bomb scare at their school. The five — ages 14 and 15 — were charged with wasteful employment of the Police Service and with making an obscene telephone call. The teens were held yesterday after quick action by police officers, who responded to the bomb scare at the school. According to a police report, the E-999 Police Command Centre received a telephone call at 9.20 am. The male caller informed the police that a bomb was on the school’s compound. PC Abner Ragoo and other police officers went to the school, where they spoke to the principal Wilfred Lyons and teachers, the report stated. Acting on information, PC Ragoo detained five pupils for questioning. While they were being interviewed in the presence of the principal and safety officer Lester Fredericks, the pupils gave oral statements. The pupils were taken to the San Fernando Police Station, the report stated, after their parents were contacted. Charges were laid by PC Ragoo.
