Security to be beefed up at prisons, airports
Junior Minister in the Ministry of National Security, Fitzgerald Hinds, yesterday said that security in the prisons, airports and other Government institutions will be beefed up with state-of-the-art detection devices. Hinds was privy to a demonstration yesterday by members of the United States Homeland Security Division, which included a video presentation of a range of security equipment and a demonstration of two security devices used to detect drugs and explosives. At the end of the session, Hinds said he was impressed by the presentation and revealed that Government was in the process of ensuring that security was improved at the prisons and at the airports and other institutions. On display yesterday was an Entryscan, which is used at some international airports to detect explosives and narcotics. It can be used for transportation security, customs and border interdiction, by the police and prisons, by the military, and for high threat facilities and Government buildings. As a result of the recent bombings in the country, a decision has been taken to improve security measures.
