Mechanic snatched from workplace

AN emotional Sharon Mohammed yesterday begged her father’s kidnappers to release him to his family. "I believe you made a mistake. Please return my father to his family. "We are renting. We have no money. We cannot even pay a ransom if asked. Just because we have a car does not mean we have money. We are a poor family," Sharon said yesterday.

According to reports, Sham Mohammed, 45, a mechanic at KS Enterprises, Charlieville, was at his company’s mechanical department in Cunupia at about midday on Wednesday, when three men walked in and asked about employment. He advised them to return next month, when two of the men drew firearms and pointed it at Mohammed.

The gunmen then ordered the father of three into a waiting red Nissan B 15 and sped off. His co-workers, who had hidden when the guns came out, called the Cunupia police, and roadblocks were set up.

The kidnapped man’s mother, Molly Mohammed, who received medical treatment on learning of her son’s abduction, is also appealing for his release.

The victim’s relatives in Freeport said they believe Sham’s kidnapping is a case of mistaken identity.

"Sham looks exactly like his boss, Harry Ramadha, and drives the boss’ white BMW, so the abductors could have mistaken him for his boss."

Investigations revealed that Ramadha received several death and kidnap threats three months ago. The contracting firm’s owner was in Tobago at the time of the kidnapping, and returned to Trinidad yesterday.
