Budget success up to individuals
THE EDITOR: The threat of inflation, because Trinbagonians will not know how to manage the cash that the 2006 Budget will make available, is on the lips of ever Tom, Dick and Harry. Especially those who consider themselves Afro and Indo Trinidadian and not just simply plain Trinidadians and Tobagonians. Well as a true Trinbagonian, I want to advise these experts that what they should be doing instead, if indeed they have the talent and knowledge, is to use the media to provide to those they consider ignorant, the information on those financial instrument that would assist them to effectively manage and increase the value of the new available cash. If they are not going to do this immediately to help their country then these so-called experts should shut up. The media should then label them unpatriotic. All the so called experts from the business community are predicting that a shortage of goods and services will "heat up the economy" and also fuel inflation because of an increase in demand because of an increase in disposable income. To predict this result is nothing new even for the non rocket scientist. What seems to be difficult for these so-called experts is the talent and knowledge to predict the quantum of the increase in demand due to the new amount of excess cash, and order or produce enough goods in advance to ensure adequate supply so there will be no increase in the price to the public. But don’t expect this to happen since these so-called business experts know that they can and will always reap obscene profits maintaining the same level of supply simply because the demand will increase and with extra cash people will pay then any price as the shortage is created. As soon as this happens all the so-called experts from the business community could easily call the media and blame the Government for creating inflation. An expert on the radio was even upset that those citizens who wasted their school days and did not complete their schooling are to be facilitated with a "Work Study Programme." He concluded that the Government was cruel and heartless to expect big hardback people to work part-time and then study part-time even when tuition will be free. (Like Trinbagonians can and must only do that up in the cold! The Government must just give them money to bling up and party till they dead or tit for tat kill each other over turf). That there was no allocation for Indian culture in the budget the eternal racists are complaining to the media. There was also no allocation for African culture but the media did not carry any complaints form Africans. But so what? This country is Trinidad and Tobago and the budget is for true Trinidadians and Tobagonians or some prefer Trinbagonians. Those who wish to consider themselves primarily as Indo and Afro should wait and check on the Budget of those countries for funds to promote the cultures of those countries. The budget is for our country to promote our culture which is neither Indo nor Afro but pure hybrid Trinbagonian. The budget as presented by the Government must be commended on its measures to improve the lives of true Trinbagonians. It in now up to every Trinbagonian to execute the actions necessary to utilise the resources and opportunities now available to ensure that all those responsible, especially the workers who are paid, deliver the goods and services to all of us. The Government with the budget did not fail us: Will we Trinbagonians fail the Government and our country NOW? KENNY SINGH Woodbrook
