Kidnappers demand $9M for Valpark manager
Kidnappers are demanding US$1 million and TT$3 million for the safe release of Valsayn proprietress Tessa Maharaj. According to reports, the abductors finally agreed on the figures with family members after days of negotiations. Meanwhile, police are investigating the possibility that bank officials may have been involved in the incident as the abductors were able to discuss the sum of money in the kidnap victim’s account, and therefore knew how much she could pay. Maharaj, 26, of Valsayn South, was kidnapped as she was putting parcels in the trunk of her car. The owner of Souvenir Corner at the mall was outside her family’s Cost Plus 10 store when she was snatched. The family, which has been praying during the holy month of Ramadan, has since turned its attention to daily prayer for Maharaj’s release. Efforts to contact the family for comments were futile.
