Bogus football game tickets

THE EDITOR: Anticipation and excitement was all that seemed to be coming from everyone leading up to Wednesday’s crucial World Cup Qualifying Match against Mexico. I could hear the tension, fear, eagerness and hope in everyone’s voice who I spoke to. I too could relate.

A group of five friends including myself had ensured that we bought tickets in advance as well as co-ordinate transport for all, so that we would all be on time and that there would be no hiccups. We did not want to miss a half-second of the game. Getting to the Stadium was without worries. We got a relatively safe park and got into the long lines a the entrance..

We were still in a very euphoric mood as were the rest of the excited Soca Warriors. After about half an hour of crawling through the crowd, we finally got to the top of the line, only to be told by the security that two of the five tickets we purchased from a well-known "registered outlet" were not valid. Imagine our shock. This was absolutely ridiculous. Exactly what we had tried to prevent by not buying from scalpers. We were advised to go to the ticketing booth, which at that time had three very long lines.

Two that dealt with persons wishing to purchase tickets and another very long one with disgruntled patrons who had the same complaint as I did.

After another lengthy 30 minutes, I was attended to in a timely and very professional manner by one of the servers, who issued us revised tickets, thanks of course to my begging and rationalising, then to be told hurry up as she had heard that they were about to close the gates. Ahhh... She had to be kidding. We rushed to the gates and approached the same officer as before who ushered us all in.

To the relevant authorities, I am pleading with you to kindly look into this issue and ensure that this never happens again. I am sure that there are more than a hundred persons that encountered the same problem as me within the time span that I was there. And , I am sure that there were many, many, others.

The responsibility lies in the hand of those that are printing the tickets to ensure that all stubs have a neon mark at the back, which inevitably was our dilemma, because of this careless breech in security five huge fans of the Warriors were almost prohibited from seeing their Dream Team keep the hopes of an entire nation alive. Kudos to the National Football Team as the spectacular display of skill and determination reaped a deserving win and brought joy, smiles and laughter to five previously bitter, cheated Soca Warrior fans. Thanks again.
