Lovers’ feud puts two in hospital

According to reports, Yolande Burnley, 38, was about to enter a bathroom outside her Charles Street, Santa Cruz home, when she was accosted by a man who stabbed her several times at 6 am Monday.

Police later went to a house in the area where they found a man the victim knew. He had stab wounds to his body. Burnley had broken off a year-and-a-half long relationship one week ago.

Up to press time, Burnley was in a stable condition and was being kept for observation, while the man, 41, was warded in a critical condition.

PC Osbourne of the Santa Cruz Police Station is investigating.

In an unrelated matter, Port-of-Spain police are investigating the circumstances under which a customer at Capital Plaza, Frederick Street, Port-of-Spain, was stabbed on Monday.

According to reports, a fight broke out between two men shortly after 1 pm. One of the men hit the other with a chair and his opponent responded by hitting him with a soft drink bottle.

At the same time, a female worker at a nearby food store came running at the two men with a knife, but she was subdued. However, one of the men grabbed the woman’s knife and stabbed his opponent several times outside the mall.

Police held both men.

Port-of-Spain Criminal Investigation Department is conducting enquiries.
