UNC executive being sworn in today
The UNC executive will be sworn in today amid the cloud of controversy which hangs over a recount process that snatched victory from Gerald Yetming and handed it to Visant Bharath for the post of vice-chairman. Sources said that the executive, which meets today, will discuss Political Leader Winston Dookeran’s proposal to hold an inquiry into the recount. Dookeran, who believes that the recount process was fraught with irregularities, is determined not to sweep the issue under the carpet, sources said. And he is adamant that there should be some inquiry, public or private. The matter will be discussed at today’s meeting. However, given the dominance of the Patriots on the executive, sources said the question of an inquiry will probably be shot down in a 13-5 vote. There will also be a meeting of all candidates at Rienzi Complex before the executive meeting. However, sources again feel that the one-hour long meeting makes little sense. "The wounds are so deep that it is hard to do anything to heal them within one hour. There are so many issues from the campaign that we have to work through — irregularities in the voting process, accusations, attacks on people’s character. You can’t deal with those things within such a short space of time," the source stated.
