27 public servants promoted
The Public Service Commission yesterday appointed and promoted 27 officers to the top positions in the Public Service during the celebration of the results of Assessment Centre Exercise at the Hilton Trinidad. Public Service Commission chairman Christopher Thomas announced that by the second phase there were only 45 officers left of the 108 public officers who applied to take part in phase two. Twenty-seven candidates were successful in the end, which Thomas said was done with the utmost security, integrity and transparency. Thomas said the method of selection was done in a competitive manner, with job simulations used to evaluate candidates, as the Public Service evolves into a merit-based organisation. The Assessment Centre will provide for a more reasoned basis for promotion and additional development. The commission also intends to adopt this methodology for selecting candidates for senior officers in the Public Service. Out of the 27 officers who were appointed to the Office of Deputy Permanent Secretary, four officers were promoted to the level of Permanent Secretary, eight officers to the level of acting Permanent Secretary and the appointment of 16 officers to the level of acting Deputy Permanent Secretary. The four newly appointed Permanent Secretaries include Reynold Cooper, Ministry of Health; Arleen Mc Comie, Office of the Prime Minister; Earl Nesbitt, Ministry of Public Utilities and Environment, and Esme Rawlins-Charles, Ministry of Housing.
