Cop’s house shot up, burnt flat
A special reserve police officer and his common-law wife, who is also an SRP, escaped death on Wednesday night when their home was maliciously set ablaze at Mentor Alley, Laventille. PC Bailey, attached to the Highway Patrol, was asleep at his home at 11 pm, when he was awakened by several loud explosions believed to be gunshots. On checking, he saw his house on fire. Bailey and his wife ran to a neighbour’s home and contacted the Besson Street Police Station and the Wrightson Road Fire Department. By the time fire officers arrived on the scene, the house had already been gutted. A Nissan Sentra belonging to Bailey was also partially destroyed by fire. Police investigators told Newsday that Bailey’s home was shot at after being set on fire. Officers added that the incident is being thoroughly investigated and a motive has already been established for the fire and shooting. He filed a report at the Besson Street Police Station yesterday and later gave a statement. Police officers told Newsday that a woman is expected to be quizzed shortly. Investigations are continuing by Cpl Hunt of the Besson Street Police Station.
