Suspect package seized by customs

Officers of the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU), led by Assistant Police Commissioner James Philbert, have seized a package from a container at a Cocoyea Village warehouse, which is believed to be linked to the four recent bombings in the country.

The package contained two bio-hazard clean-up kits and other material which are now engaging the attention of forensic officers. The seized material will be handed over to the four Federal Bureau of Investigations officers on their arrival into the country shortly. The package was found in a container which came from Miami.

Reports revealed that at about 8.30 pm last Thursday, custom officers found a suspect package inside the container during a routine check-up, and discovered the kits and other material.

They called in the police who alerted officers of the CIU.

Police are now trying to find out if the material used in the four recent bombings matches the material seized at the Cocoyea warehouse.

They are also trying to ascertain who the package was sent to. Police Commissioner Trevor Paul yesterday said he could not confirm or deny the discovery of the suspect package

Investigators believe that the four bombings are linked to someone in Miami, and suspect that they may be able to make a breakthrough in the investigations soon. Police sources revealed that Minister of National Security Martin Joseph has been informed of the seizure of the package.

Insp White of the CIU is heading investigations.
