Cop pulls gun at Nelson’s concert

An off duty policeman in plain clothes reportedly pulled a gun and threatened a uniformed policeman at a show in front of patrons at Queen’s Hall on Saturday night.

A senior cop has ordered an investigation into the report that the off duty policeman, who is attached to the Criminal Investigation Department, drew his service revolver and threatened a uniformed officer at Saturday night’s Lord Nelson concert at the Queen’s Hall auditorium.

According to the report at about 8.30 pm the off duty officer, with over ten years’ service, was misbehaving in the aisle when he was cautioned by an usher.

The policeman verbally abused the usher who made a report to the police mobile unit opposite the hall.

A uniformed officer went to the scene where he cautioned the CID officer about his actions.

The CID officer retaliated by drawing his service revolver and pointing it at the uniformed officer in full sight of the audience.

Another officer attending the show intervened and was able to calm down the situation. A report was later made to the Belmont Police Station.

Some members of the audience felt that the uniformed policeman should have arrested his fellow officer who had pulled the gun on him.

It is understood that at least one Government Minister, Ken Valley was present at the function when the incident took place.

The Lord Nelson concert at Queen’s Hall was the second in a series of four shows to celebrate the 75th birthday of popular calypsonian Lord Nelson and his 42 years in show business. It drew a packed audience.
