Schoolgirl raped in Central
A 13-year-old girl was raped after she was lured away from in front her school Thursday by a man pretending to be a policeman investigating students using firecrackers. The teenager claimed that the "policeman" told her he had to take her to the police station to be questioned in connection with the "report." But instead, the teenager told police, the man took her to a house at Roystonia Housing Development in Couva where he sexually assaulted her. Police have since charged a 24-year-old man who is expected to appear before a Couva magistrate today. According to a police report, at about 11.30 am Thursday the girl, a Form Two pupil of a secondary school in Central Trinidad, was standing in front the school. A police report stated that a car pulled up alongside her and stopped. The driver was the lone occupant. According to the report, he identified himself to the teenager as a policeman. The driver allegedly told the girl that he was investigating a report that students were setting off scratch bombs on the school compound. The driver, the report stated, also told her that he had to take her to a police station for questioning. Believing that he was a real police officer, the girl reportedly entered the car. But, according to the report, the man drove to the house where he allegedly raped her. The teenager, police said, told a guidance officer at her school about the attack. The guidance officer accompanied the girl to the Couva Police Station where the teenager reported the incident. The girl was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where a doctor confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted. A party of policemen led by Insp Sookram and including Cpl Lawrence, WPC Wiggins and PC Radikissoon later arrested the suspect at a house in Couva.
