Glencoe man in court for shooting soldier
A 33-year-old businessman appeared before a Port-of-Spain Clerk of the Peace yesterday charged with the attempted murder of a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force. Appearing before Clerk of the Peace John Prince at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court was Cristian Bourne of Edghill Drive, Glencoe. The foreign-used car salesman arrived at the court shortly after 3.30 pm yesterday, followed by his wife and mother. When Bourne appeared before Prince, the charge of attempted murder was read to him. The charge stated that on October 29, at Western Main Road, Cocorite, Bourne attempted to murder Private Jason Douglin. Appearing for the accused was attorney Om Lalla, who applied for bail on behalf of his client. However, Prince denied the application, saying he had to consider the seriousness of the offence. The Clerk of the Peace also said that since Douglin was still in the hospital as a result of the injury sustained from the alleged incident, he had no choice but to refuse bail. Bourne was later remanded in custody and will reappear before a Port-of-Spain magistrate tomorrow. Newsday understands that the accused was allegedly in an altercation with five men near Peake’s Gas Station, Cocorite, during which Douglin was shot and wounded. After the altercation, Bourne reportedly went to the Four Roads Police Station and reported the matter. Officers investigating the incident subsequently charged Bourne with attempted murder. Bourne, who was in police custody since 2 am on Saturday morning, was charged at about 2 pm yesterday. Cpl Marcelle of the St James Police Station laid the charge.
