Lighted deyas in police stations too dangerous
THE EDITOR: Please permit me to say a few words regarding this issue about Divali celebrations at some police stations in the country. While I have no problem with the celebrations as I feel that people have a right to practise their religious freedom, I might add however that for a safety reason the lighting of any naked flame should be disallowed. Now if there is some representation of the symbol thats okay, but naked flame, no. In the case of a deya, or a candle, we must not allow ourselves to be carried away by simple things. For example where I work there are many documents and there are also smoke detectors as a result you can’t smoke a cigarette in the building, you must go outside. We celebrate Divali in the office, with food, dress and music but no fire. We have arguments about Christmas celebration but those are not dealing with fire, please take note. N Walker Arima
