Man gunned down during game of pool


A Cocorite taxi driver became murder victim number 320 on Monday night. Dead is Curtis Anderson, 31, of Niles Street, Cocorite.


According to reports, Anderson was playing a game of pool at D Fun Time House at Waterloo Road and Harding Place, Cocorite, when six shots rang out at 7.30 pm. Anderson slumped to the ground in a pool of blood.


He was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His murder brought the year’s toll to 320. Autopsy results confirmed that Anderson had sustained several gunshot wounds. Police arrived on the scene shortly afterwards, but were forced to wait because the building’s owner could not be located.


Half an hour later, the owner was found in a house at Harding Place, Cocorite.


Police have since questioned one of the five persons who was in the building at the time of the shooting, while they are searching for four others.


Investigations revealed that the dead man faced a number of housebreaking charges.


However, police were unable to determine a motive for the murder. They are still trying to find out if he was shot by an intruder or one of the five persons in the building. Visiting the scene were Snr Supt Roach, ASP Cadette, Insp Lezama, and Sgt Marcelle.


Members of the Homicide Department are investigating.
