Jazz festival moved to panyard

UNABLE to obtain an intransit visa, India-born flutist Rakesh Chaurasia forced organisers of the second annual San Fernando Jazz Festival to move yesterday’s opening segment from San Fernando Hill to the Skiffle Bunch panyard on Coffee Street, San Fernando.

Chaurasia failed to obtain an intransit visa in London for his trip to Trinidad Jazz festival, according to organiser Alderman Junia Regrello at Thursday’s media conference at City Hall.

Flanked by another festival organiser, Daward Phillip, Regrello said yesterday’s $250 entrance fee had been reduced to $50. Patrons who had already purchased tickets, he added, can use them to attend tomorrow evening’s show as well.

Regrello said the duration of tomorrow’s show has been extended, with Mungal Patasar and Pantar, and Steve Koven Trio, to perform.

The show will begin at 2 pm to facilitate the additional artistes.

Also carded to perform during the three-night festival are the Samaroo Jets; Socca Moruak-gomo; Mavis John; Buckwheat Zydeco; Ovid Davis; Ralph Davies, Felix Roach and Panoramic, featuring Liam Teague and Robert Chappell.
