Beer drinker gunned down in Laventille
A LAVENTILLE father of six was shot dead while liming with friends on Village Council Street, Laventille on Friday night. Keith "Short Man" Stewart, 43, was sitting outside "De People Shoppe" drinking a beer at about 8.30 pm when four masked gunmen approached. At the time, the shop was filled with customers who fled when they saw the gunmen. Stewart did not move. Stewart, 43, who had been drinking a beer did not move as the gun men approached the packed shop that was filled with customers. One of the gunmen grabbed Stewart and began firing shots. Stewart was hit in the head and He fell to the ground still holding his beer gasping and bleeding from the nose and ears. He was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital in a private vehicle. He died while undergoing surgery. Natasha John, Stewart’s common-law wife told Sunday Newsday that she went into Port-of-Spain to buy pizza and passed him in front of the shop just minutes before he was gunned down. "He was a good man. He used to work hard and after work he would sit on those steps and drink his beer," she said. Residents described Stewart, a self-employed auto straightener and painter, as a law-abiding man. The Tobago-born man came to live in Trinidad several years ago. PC Patrick of the Homicide Division is continuing investigations into the murder.
