Dwight: All we need is one goal
TT Soca Warriors captain Dwight Yorke said last night that all we need is one goal to make it to Germany, and a government minister advised that TT should revert to its original game plan. Yorke was talking at the end of last night’s game. Minister of Works and Transport Colm Imbert said that Trinidad and Tobago should play its original game plan. This comes after the Warriors played to a disappointing 1-1 draw with Bahrain at the Hasely Crawford Stadium last night. Imbert pointed out that he was confident that if coach, Dutchman Leo Beenhakker reverts to the original game plan, which saw TT pull off an impressive win over Mexico and Guatemala recently — that the Warriors would win. Like a true coach Imbert said he felt that the defence and attack seemed at times to be a bit disorganised. This he said caused a complete difference in our performance in the other matches. He added however that TT still has a good chance to qualify for the World Cup in Germany next year — which would be a great boost to sport in general as well as a boost to the nation’s youth. Meanwhile, the Leader of the UNC Winston Dookeran, after last night’s dissappointing 1-1 result urged the local players to be calm and collected when they go to Bahrain for the return leg and remember that the entire Caribbean is behind them all the way. Dookeran pointed out that it took us a long time to reach where we are now but added that our enhancement and development to world class status would depend on the will and support of the people. He said that the result means that TT is at the edge but feels that this country can turn things around in the return leg which is carded for November 16. He credited Concacaf president and Special Adviser to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) Jack Warner for his ability to rally the support of the country, as a sea of red packed the Hasely Crawford Stadium long before the whistle had gone to start the march. Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday said that the Trinidad and Tobago team will go all the way to the final — a result that he says will put the twin island republic state on the world map. He added that with a population of close to two million people, reaching the World Cup would mean that size does not matter. Panday also urged the players to maintain concentration when they go to Bahrain for the second leg of the qualifiers. Meanwhile, Yorke also advised that we must now bounce back from the result, as we did through Christopher Birchall, only moments after the Bahrainis scored in the 73rd minute through Salman Isa. He pointed out that TT has got to be strong as a team and show the character that is needed for the team to go all the way to the World Cup. He claimed that we may have had it perfect in this game but the result has shown that there is nothing perfect in a one-all game. Ho noted that Bahrain came here with a well-organised team and as a result, played a very good game. He said they have got to give credit to Bahrain but the Warriors have shown that they also have the character to go all the way. "All we need is a goal away and we have the ability to do that," Yorke said.
