Man sets himself on fire

A Petrotrin employee is hospitalised in a serious condition after he set himself on fire at his Princes Town home on Friday night. The 35-year-old plumber, who sustained severe burns to his entire body, is warded at the San Fernando General Hospital.

According to a police report, at about 11 pm the man and his common-law wife were engaged in a heated argument at their Garth Road home.

During the argument the man reportedly stormed off and went into another room. There, according to the report, the man picked up a container of kerosene and poured it over his body. He then lit himself on fire, the report stated.

The man’s screams alerted a relative who rushed to his assistance. The woman reportedly threw a wet sheet over his body and quelled the flames.

He was rushed to the hospital via an ambulance where he was treated and warded.

Princes Town police are continuing investigations.
