Coast Guard behaving badly

THE EDITOR: In today’s high crime environment, it is essential for our protective services to demonstrate the highest behavioural standards. A recent incident is an example of our disappointment in such an expectation.

On Friday November 11 at Hi-Lo Glencoe car park, a big, dark blue, Coast Guard Prado SUV stopped in the car park roadway, blocking three properly parked cars — including mine.

The driver sat in his SUV whilst his passenger went to shop. Since I couldn’t leave my parking slot, he moved back the minimum necessary to allow me to exit. However, this movement did not allow space for the driver next to me, who was also trying to leave.

The Coast Guard driver then got out of his SUV and proceeded to urinate against the Hi-Lo wall in full view of everyone around, instead of allowing the other driver to leave.

There were ample empty car park spots to render all this hoggishness unnecessary. How does this reflect on the public image of the Coast Guard?
