PH DRIVER MURDERED


A San Juan man was shot dead yesterday morning while plying his car for hire. Dead is Curtis Pierre, 41, of Upper Bushe Street, San Juan. He is murder victim number 331 for the year.


According to reports, residents at Sea Trace heard several gunshots at 12.30 am, and when they investigated they found Pierre’s body slumped behind the wheel of his car. His body bore bullet wounds at the back of the head and body. His empty wallet was found nearby. Three empty bullet shells were also seized.


Police sources told Newsday they believe Pierre was killed during a robbery which went sour. Visiting the scene were Snr Supt Roach, ASP Cadette and CPL Veronick of the Homicide Division who is probing the murder.


In an unrelated matter, a 19-year-old Bournes Road man will today appear before a Port-of-Spain magistrate charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition. According to reports, officers of the Western Division Task Force were on patrol in an area known as "The cocoa" at 3.30 pm yesterday, when they saw the man behaving suspiciously.


They searched him and found a 12-gauge shotgun with nine rounds of ammunition. PC Fritz laid the charge.
