Six years for killing friend
A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to six years in jail for killing his friend six years ago. Premchand Bridgelal, of St Clair Road, Arouca, was before Madame Justice Alice Yorke-Soo Hon in the Port-of-Spain Second Criminal Court charged with the unlawful killing of Latchman Maraj, also called Neil in Arouca on January 1, 2000. Maraj and Bridgelal had been good friends until three months before Maraj’s death. There was a falling out when Maraj’s girlfriend told him that the accused said he (Bridgelal) had bought his house and items with drug money. Maraj was killed on Old Year’s Day 1999 after an argument between him and the accused.
