Waiting for Laqtel
THE EDITOR: Please allow me to submit my view in your popular opinion pages. Laqtel/TSTT vs Digicel! Is Laqtel wholly owned by local shareholders or by the cabinet of Trinidad and Tobago? The present inter-connection saga has left TSTT in their monopolistic position to the detriment of the citizens of this country. What is the Government’s commitment to their minority shareholder Cable and Wireless in all of this? Or more appropriately, what is the commitment of the Government to Laqtel?
It is obvious that the Government is stalling inter-connection arrangements with Digicel through direct control of TSTT so that Laqtel will have time to get their operations in order. Is it coincidental that TSTT’s inter-connectivity will be ready when Laqtel has stated that they will be ready? Where is the TATT in all of this? Are they a toothless arm of the state that has to pander to the wishes of the Government? In a developed country, people would have seen that none of the issues that TSTT has raised as reasons for the delay in inter-connectivity makes any sense.
