Save the Maraval River

THE EDITOR: Please save the Maraval River. The river is drying up because of the development taking place on its banks north of the reservoir. A developer has broken the northern bank of the river and is excavating the adjoining lands. The excavated material ends up in the river. Backhoes are driven across the river.

While this cause the river to dry up now, when the rains fall in Maraval there is bound to be serious flooding.

There have been letters in the press and to ministers, including the Prime Minister and the Minister of Works on this. Are we waiting for another tragedy before we get some action?

What sort of Government do we have? Will the Minister of Works, whose constituency it is tell us what is going on with the land development on the north bank of the Maraval River about 150 yards north of the Maraval Reservoir? It looks scandalous to me. Please save the river and your constituents from future flooding!
