Umpires do no wrong

THE EDITOR: To put it bluntly, the only occupation you can find persons of impeccable integrity and high moral values is umpiring.

Politicians are before the courts or in jail for illegal activities ranging from bribery to genocide, but not umpires. Policemen are in jail for bribery to murder, but not umpires.

Priests and other men of the cloth are in jail or before the courts for numerous illegal activities, but no umpires. Cricketers have been charged by the courts for accepting bribes, but not umpires.

Teachers, contractors, engineers, labourers, lawyers, CEPEP workers and ordinary labourers are in jail for bribery and other offences, but not umpires.

Just as how the rash decisions of referees and others change the situation then the outcome of games or the state of a country, so too has the rash decisions of umpires we have seen over the years, but none has been made to answer to any authority. Could it be that luck is on their side or there is no hard evidence to prosecute them. Oh boy, how technology and intelligence agencies seem to have been outfoxed by umpires.
