Ode to the Warriors

THE EDITOR: My sincerest congratulations go out to the Soca Warriors on their just concluded World Cup qualifier against Bahrain. The victory was well received by all, and definitely no surprise to many. Please publish the following poem (written on the day) to demonstrate my appreciation for what they have done for Trinidad and Tobago.

November 16 two thousand and five

If you see Trinbagonians come alive

From 12 midday, in front we TV

To see Bahrain play sweet T&T

The whole country stop work on this special day

To see the Soca Warriors come out and play.

And play they did, they caused we no pain

Because the Soca Warriors end up beating Bahrain

When Dennis Lawrence scored the goal, if you

hear the shout. Was only squeals and screams from

Trinbago mouth;

Everybody was true, true Trini for sure,

Some even shouting, ‘we want one more’.

They say the Warriors have to sink it in good

Otherwise, Bahrain could turn ‘round

But this wasn’t November 19 again

Because the Soca Warriors end up beating Bahrain.

This was a game well over due

But old people say what is for you is for you;

Bahrain tried all kind of strategy

To cripple, Dwight, Stern and Latapy.

But then they got a surprise from the Morvant man

Who destroyed all their well-made

anti warriors plans With just one goal he stamped

the Warriors’ name,

And made Bahrain lose all their fortune and fame.
