Every cent must be accounted for
THE EDITOR: I would like to call for proper accountability at it relates to the local organising committee for participation by Trinidad and Tobago in Germany 2006. Firstly, I would like to find out the amount of revenue gained from all the sold out games involving the Soca Warriors, this includes the reported refund that the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs gave to the LOC as a waiver of the stadium rental fees. I would like to know exactly the amount sponsored by corporate entities in Trinidad and Tobago and abroad and particularly, information as to whether the announced sponsorship deal with Adidas worth more than fifty million dollars and that of Carib, worth ten million dollars are accurately reported upon. I do not think it would be too much to ask, how much FIFA contributes to each country once it qualifies for the World Cup? I think the LOC would be responsible if it informed the public of the amount of projected revenues it expects from merchandising the Soca Warriors in Germany and from television rights to which it expects to gain access. It would be fair if they told us what the projected income from warm up matches is. Against the backdrop of information as to the overall expected revenues, it would be important for the LOC to tell taxpayers what is expected of them, that is, how much is left for the population to contribute, so that we can all play our part and be above reproach.
