Most embarrassing and distressing situation
THE EDITOR: Our country has found itself in a most embarrassing and distressing situation with officials of our two main political parties, the PNM and UNC being brought before the courts for alleged corrupt behaviour while holding public office. At a time when our young people are in search of role models to lift us out of the mire of social decay they are confronted with this unprecedented situation. The performances of our Soca Warriors, the positive vibes and the outpouring of love and unity which was demonstrated by the public gave us a glimmer of hope that we were about to turn the corner and usher in a new dawn, where sportsmanship, statesmanship and ethical conduct will reign supreme. There is need for a cleaning. Our politics and political institutions need to be reformed and transformed. I wish to appeal to both officials to do the honourable thing and resign from their positions until their court matters are determined. ALLOY R LEQUAY Couva
