Poor protocol in UNC end of year invitation
The Editor: Invitations were recently sent out to UNC members in regard to our end of year function, and for the first time ever, we were invited not by the political leader, but by the chairman of the party. In reply to a UNC official’s ludicrous statements that "it does not matter in whose name the UNC end of year function is being held," and worse yet, "whether it is from the chairman or the carpet sweeper, it does not matter," I hereby wish to state that whoever makes such a statement is obviously an illiterate in the field of protocol. One would like to ask if during his tenure in office he would have been comfortable to host a major function at the Prime Minister’s Residence and the invitation went out "On behalf of the gardener or plumber at the Prime Minister’s residence, you are cordially invited ...,"and the answer is obviously no. Protocol involves a strict adherence to rules and procedures involving any official formality, and by disregarding protocol at a UNC end of year function, it means that we see this function as not being of any significance. Furthermore, it is strange that prior to the change of political leader, there was a definite need to adhere to proper protocol procedures as all invitations of this nature were sent by the political leader, hence this reeks as nothing more than typical propoganda to continue to undermine the present political leader at every turn.
