Dookeran has me perplexed
THE EDITOR: I am deeply perplexed by Mr Dookeran’s apparently ambiguous attempt to explain away Mr Panday’s vain endeavour to hold on to power in the UNC. Indeed I am in a state of utter consternation to reconcile the piece of footwork that Jack Warner displayed when he made up with Basdeo Panday and apologised for all he said in previous interviews with the press about the weary old politician. Mr Dookeran in the mundane hurly burly that is politics, does not seem to realise that politics is all about the perception that people get in their minds about the strength and power that those who would lead actually have. Dookeran is showing that he has nothing that could be called a political plank within the party. The idea of playing around Panday and attempting to befuddle the nation with words would not in the least impress the people of this country. Even his friendly "tete a tete" with Panday in the Parliament a few days ago will not convince us that he knows who is who. Panday it seems is much aware of the nation’s mood to the extent of giving a $100,000 cheque donation to the Olympic Fund without the presence of Winston Dookeran to witness it. He has been left out of the presentation. GEORGE DAMIEN Mausica
