Bandits terrorising maxi taxi drivers

THE EDITOR: I am a maxi driver and I have seen many instances where police time has been wasted, but the worst I have seen is right in City Gate. Just imagine the maxi taxi drivers have asked for a police protection because we are being robbed and shot by bandits too often. We expected that the police would be placed at the points where passengers are boarding maxis at City Gate, so they could search suspected bandits or at least their presence would scare them away. But instead, the police have foolishly placed themselves at the off-loading area with their ticket books to issue tickets to drivers who do not form an unnecessary line to off-load their passengers.

Before the police came, the PTSC workers were doing a wonderful job in assisting drivers, but the Police are frustrating the drivers and passengers as well.

We, the drivers have complained to our President, Mr George and he has said nothing about the matter so far. So I am taking this opportunity to call on the Commissioner Mr Paul to please place the police at the points where we need them. Bandits are still boarding maxis and robbing us and the police are of no use to us at City Gate.
