Defending parasites

THE EDITOR: In a recent High Court matter, two persons from the Tacarigua area were found guilty for the possession of arms and ammunition and drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

The judge in his summation described one of the convicted as being big and if he had the power he would also have charged him a one million dollar fine. The learned judge after carefully examining all the evidence and most interestingly a bundle of testimonials from several religious leaders and also so-called leaders in the area in support of the two men convicted the men to lengthy jail terms.

In our society today where crime, drugs, kidnapping and illegal arms and ammunition are rampant it is most baffling as to how these leaders in our community came to the defence of these well known parasites.

It is also mind-boggling how men who are entrusted with our children, to nurture them in the development of our national instrument can so openly attempt to provide testimonials in support of these well known drug dealers.
