Kudos to Cpl Khan

THE EDITOR: The morning drive out of Maraval along the Saddle Road is one-way (6 am to 8.30 am) from KFC to Ellerslie Plaza. No doubt this was done with the hope of easing the traffic congestion. This has been so for a number of years but yet, many drivers still feel the need to venture against the traffic along this route even though signs are posted along the way.

Driving out of Maraval every week day has become a matter of taking a chance to follow the rules which allow for two lanes out of this area because of those who decide they didn’t feel like waiting till 8.30 am.

I have personally gone into the St Clair Police station on at least three occasions after witnessing near-misses and was even told by a particular officer "well it is 8.15 am, that’s almost 8.30." I must say after that visit I left more than a little disheartened. A few weeks later there is Corporal Khan at the corner of Saddle Road and Rapsey Street morning after morning and now, months later he’s still there.

It’s unfortunate that it takes the presence of an officer for Trinis to do what is right but with that said, I wish publicly to commend Corporal Khan for his tireless efforts to be on hand to deal with the deviant drivers who take life and limb for granted.

I trust his efforts and example serve as a motivation to not only his fellow officers but the protective services as a whole.
