A nation led by blimps

THE EDITOR: The government is unable to explain why, with a low unemployment rate of eight percent, a high per capita income of around $60,000 and a budget of $34 billion, there is so much crime and poverty. The fear of crime and grief in so many families has cheapened our money. Social and economic inequality are widening in its perverse manifestations.

The growth of spite and victimisation continues. The rise of envy and greed in this country gets worse with increased national income. There are no signs of decrease in racism, discrimination, envy, greed, spitefulness and corruption by those entrusted in high office. The government’s insatiable desire to remain in power has strengthened its policies of divisiveness and inequality between the two major races. Many in desperation have turned to the Church for answers, only to discover another arm of the PNM.

This country has the highest number of churches per capita in the Caribbean. The irony of this is that the majority of born-again and other church leaders are no different from those in government. Because of the ethnic majority, these church leaders support this government and all their policies. As an arm of the PNM, they benefit tremendously from the policies of this regime. Still these born-again PNM blimps in our churches remain silent, as they continue to float with no detection capabilities. Could anyone imagine what they would have been saying if Panday was in government at this time?

While I have no doubt in my mind that the answer to our nation’s problems is in a person called Jesus, people must no longer be misled by church leaders to the extent that they are today. Man may change habits, but only Jesus can change our nature.
