Antennae alert in Tobago
THE EDITOR: The "Cell Phone War" between the existing and the new cell phone service providers rages on. The battle for the control of the cell turf at Hampden/Lowlands waxes hot as a service provider has begun to install a "phone site antenna" in the residential area of the Birchwood Triangle, Hampden/Lowlands, Tobago. They initiated the antenna installation process, like a thief in the night, without prior consultation with the Hampden/Lowlands community. Though no approvals were obtained, another or the same company installed two cell towers in the Hampden/Lowlands community. The sites are located at Milford Road and at the corner of the Milford Road and the Claude Noel Highway. I suppose that the lure of the almighty Trinidad and Tobago petro dollar; the insatiable desire by Tobagonians to emancipate themselves from the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago’s monopolistic, mediocre cell service stranglehold, has invited the new "cell kids" on the block to take the liberty to install unauthorised cell antenna towers in the Hampden/Lowlands community. That apart, Tobagonians in general, and Hampden/Lowlanders in particular must know that the overwhelming objective research points to the adverse health effects associated with cell phone site antennae.
