Chanderpaul’s captaincy, a blow to WI cricket
THE EDITOR: As long as Chanderpaul is the West Indies cricket captain, certain critics will have reason to let off steam. As long as Bennet King is around the senior team the cricket fans will continue to scream. All this would be attributed to the presence of a sponsor from the Republic of Ireland that made its entry into West Indies cricket etched roughly by its grubby hand. Bacchanal between the two competing companies has reached the stage where it has become abominable. As a result, even the mention of the company’s name in the area of Carnival is insupportable. With Chanderapul’s captaincy the effort to train senior players like Wavell Hinds, Daren Ganga, among others will be a great farce and the West Indies will continue to be a laughing stock in international cricket. That has already been reflected when some of the former West Indies players are used by foreign radio and television networks to slam the current West Indies team. When will this truculence end? That is anybody’s guess and one only has to hope for a turnaround in the fortunes of the West Indies senior cricket team. JEFFREY M JOSEPH Fyzabad
