Too many aliens among us
THE EDITOR: I thought the Government of TT was wrong a few months ago to let the illegal alien from Israel just walk away from the place. No satisfactory explanation was ever given of how he came to the island, got an immigration stamp and moved to live in the hills of Arouca. Israel promptly took custody of its Russian national, and that apparently was that. Now two Syrian illegals are caught in Tunapuna. How did they get there? The Government should not just deport them, but hold them without bail until we find out just who they are, where they came from and who their contacts are in Trinidad. We need to plug the holes in our system that allow any Tom, Dick, Harry and the pig to come into Trinidad and Tobago, unknown to officials. Illegal immigrants should be jailed for a long time, then deported. It is time our prison population begin to look like some of the real criminals in TT. Jail all illegals, Israeli, Syrian, Dutch whatever. Make them fear, if not respect our laws These back doors need to be secured. Do we want to wake up and find that we are again a colony of some other place because we demonstrated that we could not handle ourselves responsibly? Who is trying to destabilise Trinidad and Tobago? Why are we letting them get away with it? LINDA EDWARDS Port-of-Spain
