Panday shifting the playing field
THE EDITOR: During the last General Election campaign, the mantra of the then political leader of the UNC, was “One Leader, One Party.” With the emergence of a new political leader his gospel is now one of “trinity” encompassing a triumvirate of leaders. It appears that cognisant of the position in which he is, Panday shifts the playing field and the players so that he will never be offside. The playing field now shift to a proposed unity rally designed to ‘plant’ Ramesh on the UNC.
Panday recognises that the expelled dissident, according to UNC’s constitution cannot legitimately return to the party until the expiration of five years. As he has so often done in the past. The constitution is circumvented by using the unsuspecting grassroot masses to legitimise actions. This time it is on the basis of his failed life long ‘struggle’ for unity. Perhaps it is karma to be a failure in this regard. If the intention of the rally is for unity within the party then Dr Fuad Khan and Gillian Lucky ought to be the first beneficiaries to mount the unity platform, since they are still members of the UNC, unlike Ramesh who is debarred from entering the party on the basis of Article 24 of the UNC Constitution.
