More money and bulletproof vests

THE EDITOR: Security Officers attached to MTS are rejecting the offer of 12 percent increase in salary offered by management, also the fact that management also intends to pay retroactive effective November 1, 2005. The collective agreement ended on October 31, 2004 and any retroactive payment shall be effective from November 1, 2004. Officers are forced to live with their present salary, with the cost of living skyrocketing, utility bills, health care and bank rates increase etc.

Officers are being underpaid, and due to the fact that this country is overflowing with money, security officers are demanding an increase in salary and better working conditions. Officers want the political directorate to note the following and is calling on the line Minister Mr Martin Joseph to address this situation immediately before security officers take action. Officers are requesting:

1) Increase in salary as follows:

a) Recruit from $9 per hour to $12 per hour

b) Security officer from $9.50 to $14 per hour

c)Estate constable from $10 per hour to $16 per hour

e) Estate Sergeant from $20 per hour to $25 per hour

2) Safety:

a) A firearm allowance of at least $4 per hour

b) Better working vehicles

c) Communication Equipment — officers depend on their cell phones to communicate officially

d) Bulletproof vests due to escalating crime rate in the society, this is of vital importance

e) The use of gas masks and necessary equipment regarding safety for officers who are employed in medical institutions and industrial areas

f) Driving allowance at least $5 per hour

g) Night sweaters and socks, four pairs annually

g) Stocking, 25 pairs annually for female officers

I) The implementation of all working conditions as stated in the present proposal.

Officers are ready to shut down security operations for five working days as a measure to resist the ridiculous offer made by MTS Management
