‘Praying hands’ sleeping with devil
THE EDITOR: Crime is now a national scourge. Some of the most gruesome murders which we see on a daily basis make us shudder to believe that there are demonic forces stalking our land. Many of us in the clergy are called to offer prayers for the security and welfare of our nation. With "praying hands" we pray to God for his intervention. It has now been manifested that those who registered a vote for the "praying hands", the use of which on a ballot, I had strongly objected, were in fact endorsing the praying hands of one who wishes to "sleep with the devil" rather than God. It is difficult to conceive that the God-fearing members of the party who are Parliamentarians, Mayor or Councillors and support Mr Panday, cannot guide him to the path of Godliness. The "devil" in any language, whether metaphorically or not, connotes evil, mischief and wickedness. If the psyche of our leaders is to succumb to evil, mischief and wickedness to achieve political results then our nation is doomed to be tormented by the satanic forces that bloody our landscape. It is therefore a cruel joke on our nation, for one who would stoop to "sleeping with the devil" to be part of any crime talks between the Opposition and Government in the hope of removing the evil nature of crime in our society.
