David, we will always remember

THE EDITOR: David Mc Kell, best friend and foundation member of Rascals, then on to Rabs Immortelle. We all grew up together in Belmont — David, Lester, Wayne Mc Kell, Gary and Clifford Mc Intrye, Stewart and Derwin Mc Gowan, Terry Joseph, Conrad Archer, Robert, Garth, Jerry Giuseppi, Jose, Gruny, Martin Camps, George Camps (deceased).

The Savannah was ours, we beat the best, lost to the best in football, cricket and basketball. David was always at the helm of any decision to be made. We were fete jumbies always together in any house party, whether invited or not, if one was invited, all were present. There were some parties that received our special attention as a follow up.

Those of us in Rabs would know of what we speak — boyish pranks like pulling the electrical plugs and stealing the birthday cake and laughing while eating the cake with beers.

There are so many memories to share about David, his marriage to Pat, a beautiful lady. His first child Adam. Could you imagine a baby boy among so many friends, our beach limes, our long weekends, renting houses all over Trinidad, Mayaro, Toco, Cedros, Tobago.

Together, all of us, our wives who came into the Rabs to be a part of the whole lime. We went everywhere together, Rabs invented the North Stand Posse. We were there before there was roofing. David, Robert and Gary would organise the lime.

Then there was Carnival, we started in steelband, Satisfiers Steel Orchestra. We were about 14 years old. Jabs Immortelle was the first to bring the All Inclusive concept to mas. We supplied food and drinks in those days, reason being, we were a medium band so we did not want our members straying, which would make the band look small.

David at times would let his emotions run riot when coming to mas. He was at times very aggressive, in fact we all were. We used to argue for hours, people actually thought we would come to blows, but we never did. But when consensus was reached we would say "alright talk done let we drink a beer now". David was just as passionate with his work and family as his mas. He loved Pat and his kids with a passion, he always spoke about his kids. Sometimes at Harvard club we would talk about family and work and plan the next lime.

There is so much I can write and say about my brother David, it would probably take up a book, but what I can say is that he was the staunchest and most loyal friend a person could have. We at Rabs Immortelle mourn his loss but we will always remember "the man."

To his wife Pat and kids Adam, Allison and Daniel, you can always call on us for anything at anytime. We share this loss with you.
