QPCC does not promote fetes
THE EDITOR: Interview of the wide publicity given to the excessive noise levels and the other disturbing activities that accompany Carnival fetes, the Queen’s Park Cricket Club would like to clarify some of the misconceptions that may be conveyed by this publicity. The club does not promote any Carnival fetes at all. We rent our venue under contract to promoters who are responsible for what takes place before, during and after the fete. Under the law, the venue has to apply for variations on behalf of the promoters. It is our understanding that we are one of the few that apply for such variations. To guard against breach of such variations, the club always demands a refundable down payment from the promoter equivalent to any fine imposed by the EMA under the law. We wish to make it clear therefore, that the onus is on the promoter to control the noise level and not allow any violations at their fetes. We have always met and are willing to continue meeting with the residents of Woodbrook to address their problems. We very much appreciate their concerns and we give strict instructions to the promoters as to their responsibilities. We will continue to strive to achieve a happy medium where our Carnival culture may be enjoyed in safety and the surrounding residents not unduly disturbed on these occasions.
