De Gannes wins Carnation golf title

The national youth player, who was locked atop the standings with Kelsey Lou Hing on 159 entering yesterday’s final round, registered a round of 79 to finish top with 238.

Lou Hing had a disastrous round of 87 to slip to third place with 246, one shot behind Tracey Clarke (245), who carded 79. In fact, teenagers took the first major spots on the leaderboard, with Victoria Seenath finishing fourth with 248 after recording the day’s best round of 78.

Anneke Ward jumped from eighth spot to claim the First Flight after carding 75 yesterday for a tally of 161. Violet Roopchand, who held the overnight lead with Kitty Murphy, placed second with 163 while Christine Yhap was next with 164 and Murphy fourth with 167.

Sue Benning maintained her lead in the Second Flight to prevail with 175, after hitting 87 yesterday, while S Permanand was next with 179 and, in joint third spot, Petra Beems of Suriname and C Jaggernauth 186. And, in the Third Flight, Margarite Van Der Jagt prevailed with 191, with Grenada’s Catherine Evans and J Grainger sharing second place with 197.
