Husband's death inconclusive
TWO women claiming to be the wives of a man who died on Saturday, along with a brother of the deceased, turned up at the Forensic Science Centre yesterday to await an autopsy report, to determine how he died.
Eddie George, 46, of Rio Claro died on Saturday night while travelling in a car at Princes Town. He was in company with his second common-law wife when he died.
The autopsy, carried out by Dr Eastlyn McDonald Burris, revealed death was inconclusive. Tissues were sent for further tests.
Drama erupted outside the Forensic Science Centre yesterday when the second wife, who refused to give her name, Jeffers George — the deceased man’s brother — and the first common-law wife of the dead man, Brenda Seepersad, wrangled over the right to claim the body for burial. Seepersad stood under a tree at the centre closely monitored by Jeffers George, who sat on a bench. The second wife was also nearby.
George’s body was removed to the San Fernando mortuary after the incident and the woman whom he had been living with recently, requested that an autopsy be carried out. Jeffers George was contacted.
He told Newsday that he spoke to the police only to be told that the body was claimed by first wife, Brenda Seepersad, and she was making arrangements for the funeral.
George went to the police and expressed his concern over the manner in which the body of his brother was removed. Seepersad told Newsday she had been living with George for the past 24 years and they had a son, Eddie George Jr, 22.
She added that following a heated argument, her husband started seeing another woman but continued to eat at her home and visited regularly. Seepersad revealed that her husband was a good man despite having another woman.
When the autopsy report was presented to Jeffers George yesterday, he spoke with George Jr and Seepersad to make arrangements for the funeral. Seepersad said based on the fact that her son was included in funeral arrangements, she had no problem with the funeral being handled by the George family.
