Trio on kidnap charge
Rodney Kangoo, 37, who owns Security and Emergency Operations Services in Marabella and his employees Lyndon Joshua, 23, and Dennis Henry, 30, appeared before deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington.
The charges allege that on Wednesday April 19, teacher Keston Coker, 24, was kidnapped, beaten and robbed at Southern Main Road in Marabella. PC Roger Reid of Marabella Police Station laid the charges.
The charges also alleged that the trio used personal violence on Coker.
The three accused were not called upon to plead as the charges were laid indictably. Prosecutor Sgt Harricharan Cassie objected to bail on the grounds that the police needed to carry out a “trace” (background check) on the men to determine whether they had any previous convictions or pending matters.
Attorney Prakash Ramadhar is representing the trio. The matter was adjourned to May 4.
In an unrelated matter which also engaged the attention of Magistrate Wellington was that of Roger Greene who was remanded into custody after reappearing in court for the murder of south businessman Dr Ravi Maharaj.
Maharaj, 63, a medical physician and businessman, died at the San Fernando General Hospital on January 11, shortly after he was found lying on the floor of his home at Chacon Street, San Fernando.
Greene 33, of Pleasantville is also charged with stealing a Datsun motorcar owned by Arnold Manning on March 22.
Greene’s attorney was not present in court when the matter was called yesterday. Magistrate Wellington adjourned the case to May 3.
